GIRLS 2008 FALL SOFTBALL

 PURPOSE

The purpose of the Warriors girls softball program is:

  • To offer the young women of our community the opportunity to play softball in the fall;
  • To operate a non-profit girls fast pitch softball program;
  • To promote girls softball in the Warriors territory by creating good players, promoting fun and team spirit and teaching good sportsmanship to all players, parents and fans; and
  • To ensure that the girls have the opportunity to play softball throughout their school years.

WHO CAN PLAY?

Girls from the ages of 7-14, as long as they are not registered to enter high school in the fall of 2008, can participate in a recreational league against other players from other territories.  The Warriors are one of eight members of the Arapahoe Youth League (AYL) and serve the youth in Northern Douglas County (for a description of the Warriors territory, please select the "Our Territory" link).

RULES OF PLAY

Player's age before August 1, 2008 determines which division your child will play.  All teams are subjected to a "minimum play" requirement meaning that all players shall play in the field for a minimum of six (6) defensive outs in every game attended.  Each team is required to bat all players present and bat in the same batting order that is established at the start of each new game.  Appropriate protective gear (batting helmet with cage) is required for all batters.  Additional protective gear such as shin pads and heart guards are recommended, but not required.  Additionally, absolutely no jewelry will be worn at anytime.  The only exception to this rule is a medical bracelet or necklace which shall be taped to the body during the game.  For a complete copy of the AYL softball rules, please go to AYL softball and click on softball link/rules.

CERTIFIED UMPIRES

Warriors, in connection with the AYL league, uses certified umpires in all our games.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

For your child's protection, all coaches of the Warriors League are subjected to a criminal background check.

WHERE DOES ALL YOUR MONEY GO?

The association receives its funding from registration fees.  You ask, "Where does all this money go?"  In addition to conducting background checks on all coaches, our major expenses include hiring umpires, field rental, team insurance, playing equipment and warehouse rental.  Please return to the "Home" page for a detailed description of the costs involved with this organization.

VOLUNTEERS

With the exception of our umpires and two contract workers, all other Warrior representatives (officers, coaches, scorekeepers, team parents, etc.) are volunteers.  We need you to realize that these people are doing this for the love of the Warriors.  There is always a need for additional volunteers.  If you could take the time to take on just one task, it would help to ease the time and pressure of those who have big jobs.  Contact our President or any officer if you would like to provide assistance.

The registration deadline is July 1, 2008.  Practice begins the week of July 28, 2008.  The first game is scheduled for August 9, 2008 with a season ending tournament scheduled for September 27th and 28th.
